November 7, 2007: RFID technology is continuing its steady march into the workplace with Docuspace partner Intensecomp announcing the release of its new online document management solution, DocuTrack3000 – Hosted Edition. The system ties together the management of electronic and hard copies of files by combining the two in a single, web-browser based electronic document management system (EDMS). Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is used to monitor the movement and location of documents in and outside of the office, while electronic documents can be managed, secured and collaborated on by workers both locally and abroad. While RFID document tracking technology itself is not new, DocuTrack3000 puts a new spin on it by enabling tagged documents to be checked in or out of the system from anywhere. This is done by plugging in an RFID reader into any internet-enabled computer and scanning the tagged file, thereby updating its location and custodian remotely. Intensecomp says the system also features strict document access control, version control, approval requests, email-based document sharing without attachments, retention periods with alerts and 256bit AES encryption for security.
