May 22, 2007: Objective Corporation have extended their geographical footprint into South East Asia as City Gas in Singapore signs the dotted line for an EDRM solution.

According to Tony Walls, CEO of Objective Corporation, the contract marks an important geographical market for Objective. “We are committed to the region, employing experienced, local people,” he says. “Their experience in ECM and related technologies, together with their knowledge of local business issues is invaluable to providing our customers with successful, relevant solutions that deliver real business outcomes.”

Objective’s enterprise document and records management (EDRMS) solution will enable City Gas to progressively shift their operations from a paper-based to electronic environment in order to effectively manage their growing information needs. Objective says City Gas will be able to eliminate the disjointed information currently existing in silos across differing business divisions.

Lawrence Siow, IT manager at City Gas says the Objective solution will have them eliminating the risks associated with their current paper-based operations. “Information was retained in a paper format, in a one-off record, creating a risk of loss either by misfiling, fire or some other disaster,” he says. “With Objective, we can be assured out information will remain secure for future use.”

For Siow, it’s also a matter of ensuring organisational confidence and storing their information in a single repository that will provide staff with a centralised, information access point. “It (Objective) will enable us to standardise information management across the organisation by providing staff with the direction, tools, training and support they need,” he says.

The City Gas contract will have Objective’s enterprise-wide solution deployed across two locations and used by customer services, HR, corporate services, sales and marketing and finance and production. With time efficiencies offered through improved search capabilities and better knowledge management, the solution will also enable timely access to information for improved decision-making while working to reduce future storage costs.

“We selected Objective because it enabled City Gas to move into the future with the ability to manage increasing quantities of information,” says Siow. “Objective’s reputation for successful, scalable implementations and their approach to implementation and ongoing support of their solutions was well regarded.”

City Gas provides both town and natural gas to residential, commercial and industrial sectors. Responsible for over 2,600 kilometres of pipe networks, the Singapore based provider services more than 90 percent of new high density buildings.

New Hummingbird Plays Nicely with Windows PDF Print E-mail

Trouble getting your UNIX and Windows to jive? Hummingbird is here to help.

The ECM bigwigs at Open Text just announced the availability of Hummingbird Connectivity Suite.

Part of its Hummingbird grab last year, the Suite is now Windows Vista certified.

Open Text and Microsoft worked hand-in-hand to obtain the coveted Vista certification for Hummingbird Connectivity 2008, slated for release in early ‘07. Each Vista-certified product in the Hummingbird family was tested by VeriTest, Microsoft’s official certification lab, before obtaining approval for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms. These include Exceed and Exceed PowerSuite, HostExplorer, NFS Maestro Solo, Client and Enterprise; and Connectivity Secure Shell and SecureTerm.

Dave Wascha, director of Windows Client partner marketing, expresses Microsoft’s pleasure. “By certifying its applications, Hummingbird Connectivity is letting its customers know that its products have met explicit standards of reliability and quality, and have been tested and proven to deliver a superior experience with a PC running Windows Vista.”

Hummingbird Connectivity, now a key member of the Windows Vista Early Adopter Program, connects users to apps and data with a suite of features-ridden technologies. The challenges of integrating heterogeneous legacy infrastructures like UNIX or Mainframe to Windows desktops can be met with ease and little expense for those familiar with the Hummingbird line of products.

Meanwhile, Open Text itself is high as a … well, bird, on its demonstrated first mover advantage.

General Manager Eugene Cherny of Hummingbird Connectivity notes that the company is “pleased to be the first PC X Server on the market to be certified for Windows Vista with the Certified for Windows Vista logo. Our products continue to be on the forefront of new technologies to ensure we provide our customers with a competitive edge of a complete and cost-effective Connectivity suite.”

Nice to see another match made in ECM heaven.

Open Text answers questions about just what would be done with RedDot, which was acquired as part of the Hummingbird acquisition, by using RedDot CMS to enable a personalized web experience for the Yorkshire Tourist Board.

Today millions of sites vie for the attention of Internet users. Knowing “brochure-ware” would simply not make the grade in an age of rich Internet applications, RedDot CMS was selected by the Yorkshire Tourist Board (Y T B to provide the content management component of a forthcoming redesign of www.yorkshire.com.

The updates to the YTB’s primary site are part of an overall campaign called “Make Yorkshire Yours,” geared toward providing a personalized experience for every unique visitor.

By integrating RedDot CMS, the YTB hopes to relieve the burden traditionally put on IT departments to keep an enterprise’s virtual face fresh. Non-technical users can build and edit content with standard templates that naturally conform to the site’s look and feel. Furthermore, time-sensitive content can now be published more quickly and easily.

Now known as “The Open Text Web Solutions Group,” RedDot will partner with Corporate Document Services, who will be responsible for the overall implementation of the initiative.

David Andrews, Chief Executive of the Yorkshire Tourist Bureau, notes, “Consumers’ expectations are constantly increasing. To keep ahead of the game we need to ensure our website evolves at pace with the needs of our markets.

“Today’s technology enables far more tailored and user specific options, creating a very personal experience […] We selected RedDot for its ability to deliver this and for the flexibility, functionality, ease of use and competitive pricing of the design.”

In an industry where acquisition announcements are too often the figurative “last gasp” of an acquired company, it is refreshing to see that Open Text is leveraging RedDot’s unique value proposition in the web content management space to expand their own reputation in the enterprise content management market.

Upgraded EMC Products Aim to Simplify Governance PDF Print E-mail

In order to help customers better manage their electronically stored information while also meeting internal and external governance requirements, EMC has delivered new versions of both their email and file system archiving solutions.

In a refreshing display of common sense, EMC EmailXtender version 4.8 puts the responsibility of archiving email on the corporate users who have the ground level understanding of their content. Rather than constantly updating the business rules of a software solution and hoping that nothing is missed, users will now be able to categorize emails for archival and retention based on their importance to the business at hand. EmailXtender can now utilize it?s strengths as an archival and retention solution while placing the accountability for message management on the users.

How important is email management? Wessam Baroudi, Barlows IT Manager, puts it in perspective stating, 'By law, we have to retain certain client contractual information for a number of years. EMC EmailXtender enables us to efficiently and accurately archive all e-mails to ensure we have an easy-to-use, -manage and -search repository with an audit trail. In addition, the software enables us to maximize the disk space in our Microsoft Exchange environment by quickly and efficiently archiving and offloading old e-mails to secondary storage.'
